Hello and welcome

Hi , I am starting this blog to try and keep a record of sorts about the narrowboat we have just bought.

Well our introduction to boating started last August when we purchased a 1974 Callumcraft cabin cruiser. Having brought the boat back to Yorkshire and secured a mooring in Brighouse, we have had an absolute wheeze of a time playing around on the Calder and hebble Navigation and the Rochdale Canal in her.

Yet my partner Evelyn still yearned for a narrowboat, only a shortish one but still something that was a bit more stable as you got on and off.

So after looking around various places and at a few boats we spotted just the thing, "Bhan Cloan" a 36ft narrowboat for sale at West Stockwith at the junction of the Chesterfield Canal and the river Trent.

Evelyn went to see it while I was at work and fell in love with her straight away. After going down myself a few days later I knew that her instincts had been right and that "Bhan Cloan" as the one for us.

So after all the usual stuff, we are now the owners of a re-named " Barking Mad".
After a couple of weeks doing some work on her, including getting a new BSS cert, not a lot really to do for that , just replace old rubber hoses and away we go, we were ready to hit the water.
Barking Mad was to be re-launched on the 16th may, my birthday.
